Overworked actors and their stunt doubles

The brief
With a reputation for crowd-pleasing shows, the comedy play Ringer by Hughie Shepherd-Cross dived into the complex world of overworked actors and stunt accidents.

This was the second time that I had worked with Hughie and his fifth appearance at the Fringe.

The brief was to build on the coverage from his previous Edinburgh show, to make use of London venue relationships, and to step up the media coverage to UK national titles.

My role
The first actions were to make contact with the Rosemary Branch theatre in London - a venue where Hughie had staged a number of performances. I encouraged them to talk about the Edinburgh run of Ringer to their audiences through email newsletters and socials.

I started early reaching out to potential reviewers (from March), with the media release focussing on Hughie's rising star, and the acclaim that his previous Fringe show Out to Lunch had received (it was in production as an Audible Audiobook).

I also showcased the lead of the show - Fabian Bevan, a graduate of the prestigious Fontainebleau School of Acting. This play provided him with a platform to further his acting career.

The result
Before the show opened, preview coverage included a piece in The Edinburgh Reporter, an interview opportunity with YouTube channel 'Behind The Stunts' (10,000 subscribers), and various comedy and what's on listings.

Starting work early with the reviewers paid off - many reported back that if I hadn't mentioned the show to them in March, they would not have been able to fit it in.

Six reviews were published, including The Scotsman, Scottish Field, various theatre bloggers, and that UK national title we wanted - The Stage.
