The challenge
Argyll and the Isles’ Culture, Heritage and Arts Assembly (CHARTS) champion a range of creative organisations and practitioners. In December 2021 we worked with a team across Scotland and Ireland to light up six locations, including the National Parliament in Dublin, with projections of work by 10 artists. ‘Illuminations’ celebrated the achievements of artists supported by The Colmcille Legacy Award.

What we did
Initially we had to get up to speed on what was planned at each location by contacting six projection managers. We developed a strategy for how the event would be marketed, and produced a Google Doc to help schedule copy, videos and imagery for social media posts, email newsletters and a website. With partners Bòrd na Gàidhlig, we prepared and issued a media release. Working with the Director, we selected artists and a Board member to be interviewed by the BBC over Zoom. Briefing meetings were setup with each interviewee to make sure they were prepared. We also had to communicate clearly during a fast-moving situation when two of the events were cancelled due to weather.

What we achieved
After following up with Scottish press contacts, the media release generated interest, with coverage in five Argyll and Bute titles, as well as BBC Alba national TV and radio. Planning ahead reduced the impact of the cancellations on the team workload.
